GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport University Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Paul Lowden announced today (May 10, 2024) that
Charley Andrews will be the next head coach of the women's volleyball program. Andrews served as an assistant coach for the Panthers in their 2023 campaign and will be the fourth coach in program history.
"Charley provides a dynamic and passionate approach to leading and building trust with her student-athletes, which will provide a successful platform to propel them to grow on and off the court," Lowden said. "She was able to communicate her readiness to empower our student-athletes and elevate our program to the next level. In addition, Charley's diverse involvement working in many facets of playing and coaching in high-level competitive volleyball experiences provides her with a strong background of skills to continue the volleyball tradition at Davenport."
Prior to her arrival at DU ahead of the 2023 season, Andrews was an assistant coach at Hope College, where her primary duties included scouting opponents, recruiting and aiding in running specific team and player drills. Andrews helped guide the Flying Dutch to a 24-8 overall record, finishing 7-1 in conference action, while advancing to NCAA Division III Quarterfinals in postseason play.
"I am thrilled and honored to step into the role of head coach for the Davenport University volleyball program," Andrews said. "My time as an assistant under Brian (Netzler) has been invaluable. I have developed a deep love for this school, this program and the incredible student-athletes. I'm grateful for Paul, Ronda (Varnesdeel) and the rest of our administration for this opportunity and am ready to lead this program to new heights, continuing the tradition of excellence that defines Davenport volleyball."
The Battle Creek, Mich. native played two seasons of NCAA Division I volleyball at Western Michigan University. While with the Broncos, Andrews played in 64 career matches and was an American Volleyball Coaches Association Diversity Award recipient in 2020. She also served on WMU's Leadership Committee and Diversity Task Force during the 2019-20 academic year.
