Panthers Aim to Climb GLIAC Standings in Crucial Road Stretch

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Building on recent success, the Davenport University men's soccer team looks to carry its momentum into another crucial weekend of GLIAC play. After freshman Charlie Davis earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors and the Panthers picked up a 3-1 win over Northern Michigan followed by a 1-1 draw with Parkside, Davenport will hit the road to face Purdue Northwest on Thursday and Roosevelt on Saturday.

The Panthers will travel to Hammond, Ind., to take on the Pride of Purdue Northwest at 4 p.m. (ET) on Oct. 24 at Dowling Park, before heading to Chicago, Ill., to face Roosevelt at 1 p.m. (ET) on Oct. 26.

Panther Leaders:
Davis has been an offensive force this season, ranking among the top 10 in six GLIAC statistical categories — 3rd in shots (33), 4th in shots on goal (17), 8th in goals (4), 2nd in assists (4), 5th in game-winning goals (2), and 5th in points (12). Ryan Sheffer joins Davis atop the team leaderboard with four goals.

Defensively, Beau Hudd has been a steady presence in net, recording 39 saves on 164 shots faced with a 1.31 goals-against average (GAA).

The GLIAC standings remain tight as Davenport (7 points) sits just ahead of St. Cloud State (6) and Purdue Northwest (5), making this weekend's conference slate pivotal in the race for postseason qualification.

Purdue Northwest Matchup
The Pride enters the weekend 2-9-2 overall and 1-5-2 in GLIAC play. When the two teams met earlier this month (Oct. 5), they battled to a 2-2 draw in Caledonia.

Landon Potts and Rami Hassan Zantout lead PNW with three goals and seven points each. Aloe Berassa leads the team with 29 shots, while Zantout follows closely with 28 and tops the squad with 17 shots on goal.

In goal, Mateus Baptista de Souza has started 11 matches, making 25 saves on 119 shots faced and carrying a 2.10 GAA.

Following their matchup with Davenport, the Pride will host Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 26 before closing GLIAC play against Parkside and Northern Michigan.

Roosevelt Matchup
The Lakers currently sit atop the GLIAC standings with 19 points, boasting an 8-2-3 overall record and 6-1-1 mark in conference play. Their only conference loss came against Saginaw Valley State, with their lone draw versus Purdue Northwest.
Roosevelt has been efficient on both ends, tallying 22 goals, 160 total shots (75 on goal), and 16 assists, while their keepers have combined for 54 saves.

Fynn Mewes headlines the attack with 9 goals, 20 points, and 26 shots (13 SOG) in 920 minutes played. Caco Fernandez leads the team in total shots (31) and ranks second in SOG (16). On the defensive end, Eric Carvajal has started 12 of 14 matches, collecting 50 saves on 138 shots faced for a 1.36 GAA.

Before hosting the Panthers on Oct. 26, Roosevelt will face Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 24, then wrap up the regular season against Northern Michigan and Parkside.
