MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Davenport swimming and diving teams started their 2025-26 season with the two-day Northern Michigan Invite at PEIF Pool. The event was treated as two separate meets with one on Friday and Saturday. The teams competing were NMU, St. Cloud State, Lake Superior State, and Davenport.
Davenport had a notable performance at the Northern Michigan Invite on Day 1, with standout contributions from several athletes. In the women's events,
Zofia Janaszek-Seydlitz and
Claire DeKievit delivered strong performances in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, finishing with times of 1:07.27 and 1:07.78 respectively. DeKievit also competed in the Women's 200 Yard IM, finishing in a time of 2:16.98, securing valuable points for Davenport. Additionally,
Asyia Shank participated in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, contributing to a time of 1:49.64.
On the men's side, Davenport's
Micah Sholl led in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, clocking in at 56.45, and also contributed to the Men's 400 Yard Medley Relay, helping to finish with a time of 3:34.49.
Nolan Breckon and
Grant Sandstedt, part of the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, finished in 1:34.45, showcasing their speed and teamwork. Davenport's efforts across various events underscore their competitive presence and contribution to the overall team score of 430 points, placing them third in the men's team rankings.
DU faced tough competition at the Northern Michigan Invite on Day 2, securing a strong presence in the events.
Elise Miller showed a notable performance in the women's 1-meter diving event, achieving a score of 194.65, contributing significantly to the team's overall score. In the swimming events, Janaszek-Seydlitz stood out in the women's 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:27.69 and earning a solid 15 points for the team.
On the men's side, Davenport's
Matthew Gauck excelled in the men's 3-meter diving, securing a score of 285.65 and placing second, which added 17 points to the team's tally. In the men's 200-yard butterfly,
Jakub Karpinski also made a significant impact by finishing with a time of 2:04.21, earning 12 points. Overall, Davenport University's athletes demonstrated resilience and contributed to a commendable team performance, with the men's team ranking third with 235 points and the women's team also securing third place with 245 points.
