Panthers Prep for Midweek Non-Conference Action

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Panthers of the women's basketball team head into their final week of non-conference action with a matchup against Malone before opening GLIAC play on Dec. 4 at home against Saginaw Valley State.

Maddie Geers continues to be Davenport's most steady all-around presence, averaging 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and making a strong defensive impact with 12 steals and 7 blocks. Ellie Toney has also been a key contributor, adding 9.8 points per game and emerging as one of the team's strongest rebounders at 5.8 boards per outing. In the paint, Kayla Covington provides efficient production at 50 percent from the floor to go with 9.3 points per game.

Off the bench, Anna Axtell has delivered a valuable scoring spark, averaging 9.3 points while knocking down an impressive 47.4 percentage of her attempts from three. Running the offense, Hannah Schroeder averaged a career-high of 2.5 assists per game. 

Scouting Malone 
  • Head Coach Selana Ickes enters her eighth season after a 22–8 finish in the 2024–25 season, her best season yet with a .733 win percentage - Malone's strongest regular season since 2016-17.
  • The Pioneers return All-American Erin Kaufman, who ranked 18th nationally in FG percentage (55.1) last season.
    • Kaufman leads Malone this season with 101 points, averaging 20.2 PPG, while also totaling 48 rebounds.
  • Historically, Davenport trails the all-time series with Malone, having met only once before an 81–65 loss on Nov. 26, 2024.
  • Thus far, Malone is averaging 80.4 points per game, shooting 46.9 percent from the field, 43.6 percent from three, and 75.3 percent at the line, while holding 41.8 rebounds per game, forcing 9.0 steals per game, and averaging 17.2 assists and 19.4 turnovers.
