TAMPA, Fla. - The Davenport baseball team will have a fun flight home after they beat Ashland 4-0 on Sunday to end their Florida trip with an overall record of 8-3. The Panthers defeated the No. 21 Eagles at the University of Tampa baseball field and more importantly got a regional win over a quality opponent.
Keegan Batka has been as good as anyone in the country and improved to 3-0 on the mound. He went seven innings and allowed just three hits with no walks and six strikeouts. He handed the ball to
Mason Hill in the eighth who walked two and struck out one.
Ian Dixon finished the game with one scoreless inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Logan Todd had a triple going 2-of-3 at the plate and scored a run.
Dylan Pawenski hit his third home run of the season in the fourth inning to open the scoring.
Garrett Swan had a RBI single in the fifth inning as part of a three-run inning. Swan later stole second base and
Cody Hultink scored on the throw.
Justin Johnson then drove home Swan with the fourth run on a single. DU had six hits in the game and Todd was the only player with two hits. Hultink and Swan each recorded a stolen base.
The road does not get easier as the Panthers will now travel for a four-game series starting on Friday, Mar. 7 at No. 7 Indianapolis. The Greyhounds however have lost five straight games and trail in today's game against Grand Valley State 4-2 in the eighth inning.Â
