ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Davenport bowling teams competed on Friday, Mar. 7 at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Sectional Qualifier at Thunderbowl Lanes. The Panthers will have two men's bowlers advancing to the nationals this year as the top five in this sectional will bowl in Las Vegas at South Point Bowling Plaza beginning on Tuesday, Apr. 15.
Ethan VanderSlik placed fourth out of 180 bowlers in the six-game qualifier with a total of 1,373 pinfall. VanderSlik rolled a 236 in the first game and had a high game of 278 in the fourth game.
Charlie Johnson placed fifth with a total pinfall of 1,370. The difference between fifth and sixth place was seven pins. Johnson started off strong with a 258 and had his high game of 277 in the fourth game.
Tyler Kelly placed 18th with a total of 1,328 and had a high game of 248 in the fifth game. Samuel Woolworth finished 25th with a total of 1,304 and had a high game of 276 in the fifth game.
Dylan Vermilyea was the fifth best bowler for Davenport in 28th place with a total of 1,298 and had a high game of 244 in the first game.
