Preview: Panthers Start Second Half of Conference Season on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Having played every team in the conference once already this season, the Davenport University softball team will now start the second half of GLIAC action, having rematches with all seven opponents. That starts this weekend on the road, as the Panthers (16-18, 7-7 GLIAC) travel to Purdue Northwest on Saturday (April 12) and Grand Valley State on -Sunday (April 13).

The Panthers (16-18, 7-7 GLIAC) have already surpassed their win total from a season ago (15) and are tied for number of wins in conference action.

About the Pride
  • Last season, PNW finished the year 33-22 overall, going 15-9 in GLIAC action. 
  • PNW returned only two of their seven All-GLIAC honorees from last season; Kylie Dugan (First Team) and Amanda DeBoer (Honorable Mention). The duo is now leading the squad in batting average this season, Dugan batting .378 (31-for-82) while DeBoer is batting .364 (28-for-77).
  • Freshman Kylie Madura earned week five GLIAC Player of the Week honors (March 17).
  • Rylan Gick leads the Pride in the circle, currently sitting at a 5.71 ERA with three wins (team-high) and 57 strikeouts (team-high).
  • Enter the week on a three-game losing streak.
  • Picked to finish fourth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

About the Lakers
  • In 2024, GVSU ended the season with a 37-18 overall record, going 16-8 in GLIAC play. The Lakers fell in the NCAA Midwest Regional to Trevecca Nazarene, 7-1.
  • Senior Morgan Spicer is the top returner from last season's squad. The infielder earned First Team All-GLIAC honors in 2024.
  • In the circle, Nevaeh Ingram is the top returner, posting a 7-0 record and a 1.82 ERA a season ago.
  • So far this season, freshman Madelynn Pope is leading the GVSU offense, batting .352 (37-for-105) with 19 runs, six doubles, seven triples, one home run and 19 RBIs.
  • Enter the weekend off a pair of losses to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, April 12. 
  • Currently in a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings with Davenport and Parkside.
