Preview: Panthers Set for Critical Final Weekend of Play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - With just two doubleheaders remaining on the 2025 regular season schedule, the Davenport University softball team. It is an important four-game stretch for the Panthers, seeking a spot in the postseason conference tournament.

Race to Rosemont
As the end of the regular season approaches, all eyes are on the postseason GLIAC Tournament, which is taking place in Rosemont, Ill. during the first week of May. The top six teams make the conference tournament at the end of the year.

About the Lakers
  • In their first season as a part of NCAA Division II and the GLIAC, making the jump from NAIA.
  • Ella Dvoracek is the top offensive threat for RU. The sophomore leads the Lakers in batting average (.362), hits (50), runs (34),  home runs (two) and total bases (58). She also has six stolen bases and 12 RBIs.
  • In the circle, Riley Czarnecki has recorded eight wins on the season, posting a 3.61 ERA and 60 strikeouts (team-high).
  • The Laker's best win of the season came on Sunday, April 13, knocking off GLIAC regular-season champion, Saginaw Valley State, 15-5.
  • Picked to finish eighth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

About the Rangers
  • A season ago, the Rangers went 19-33 overall with a 9-15 record in conference play. UWP was eliminated from the GLIAC tournament by Purdue Northwest 3-1 on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
  • Mia Johnson is the top returner for UWP A season ago, the South Milwaukee, Wis. native was named the GLIAC Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Conference honoree. Now, as a junior, Johnson has continued to dominate, leading the league in home runs (17) while ranking top-five in batting average (.369). She has earned GLIAC Player of the Week twice this season (weeks 6 & 7).
  • Olivia Masnica leads the way in the circle for UWP. The senior leads the way in wins (nine), while ranking second in ERA (3.08) and strikeouts (41).
  • Last time the Rangers took the field, they split with Grand Valley State on the road. 
  • Picked to finish fifth in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
