AUGUSTA, Mich. - The Davenport women's golf team finished fourth at the GLIAC Championships and advanced to medal match play before falling 4-1 against Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers played 36 holes total with a round on Friday and Saturday. DU shot 307 in the first round and followed that with 312 for a total of 619. Grand Valley State advanced as the top finisher at 578 followed by Ferris State (601) and Wayne State (611).
Venetia Chap had the team's best finish in stroke play in seventh place. She carded a 76 on day one and trimmed two strokes to 74 on day two. She played steady on Friday at four-over par. Chap recorded four birdies on Saturday and shot 37 on both nine's.
Lauren Gervais tied for 15th place and shot six-over par each day (78). Gervais was able to record two birdies on Friday and also had one birdie on Saturday.
Hannah Robinson was in a three-way tie for 19th with a total of 158 (74-84).
Melissa Walker finished in a three-way tie for 23rd place with a total of 160 (82-78).
ThaiLee Gerding placed 26th with a score of 161 (79-82). The medal match play pitted the Panthers and the Lakers. The matchups began with Julia Sanchez versus Gerding. Sanchez won 4-up and she shot 75 compared to 79 for Gerding. Robinson went head-to-head against Charlotte Goersch and fell 5-up. Olivia Stoll for GVSU shot 63 and the match was concluded 8&1 over Chap. Gervais picked up the team's point with a 6&1 win over Megan Miron. Walker and Paula Badino had the last match and Badino prevailed 10&2.
