Panthers Begin GLIAC Action With Midweek Home Match, Weekend Trip

CALEDONIA, Mich. Davenport University will open 2025 GLIAC play against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Panthers will then face the Huskies of St. Cloud State on Friday, Sept. 26, at 8:30 p.m. inside Husky Stadium.

The Panthers' last NCAA competition came against Tiffin on Sept. 13 before matching up with GRCC on Sept. 19. Sitting at 1-2-1 after preseason play, DU looks to showcase the work they have diligently put together in training.

Several Panthers have already made an impact. Starting and playing in all four contests so far are Charlie Davis, Drew Matyunas, Maxamillian Postlewait, Easton Lopez, Austin Hall, Aidan Orth, Jordy Rodriguez and Max Wilhelm, with Beau Hudd in net. Davis, Matyunas and Postlewait have each scored once, while Lopez leads the team in shots (10) and shots on goal (six).

Saginaw Valley State Matchup
The Cardinals head to Caledonia for their first GLIAC contest of the season after posting a 1-0-3 record in preseason play against No. 2 Charleston (W.Va.), Illinois-Springfield, Tiffin and Northwood.

Freshman midfielder Lui Ingavi has stood out early, totaling three goals, one assist, seven points and 15 shots with 12 on frame. Junior forward Evan Baker has added two goals, two assists and nine shots. In goal, Nick Kay has been the Cardinals' anchor, starting all four matches and recording 10 saves.

The most recent meeting between the two programs came on Oct. 30, 2024, when SVSU earned a 1-0 win to close a 5-15-3 campaign.

St. Cloud State Matchup
The Huskies, the lone Minnesota team in the GLIAC, enter with a 2-2-1 record after defeating Upper Iowa and Jamestown, falling to Truman State and St. Thomas, and drawing with No. 10 Quincy.

Fifth-year forward Andrés García leads the squad with three goals and six points, while junior forward Diego Ramos has chipped in a goal, two assists and seven shots. Goalkeepers Ramy Atia and JJ Dunfer have split time in net, combining for 18 saves on 55 shots faced.

Davenport will have one conference matchup under its belt before taking on St. Cloud State, which will be playing its first GLIAC contest.
