GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a 10-game stretch in the Sunshine State, the Panthers return to the Midwest for a series of doubleheaders against familiar Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) opponents Tiffin, Cedarville and Findlay — all teams Davenport faced during The Spring Games about a week ago.
Davenport picked up its first win of the 2026 season on February 28 against Bridgeport, defeating the Purple Knights 9-4 in the third meeting between the two teams in a two-day span. The game marked one of Davenport's strongest offensive performances of the trip, highlighted by multiple hits and RBIs from Ally Prasnjak and Alaina Schwanke.
The Panthers also battled through several tight contests that went into extra innings, including matchups against Bridgeport (L, 3-2), Cedarville (W, 4-2) and Walsh (L, 1-0).
Panthers Leading the Way
- Watervliet, Michigan native and sophomore pitcher Hannah Tahaney earned GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors (March 9) after five appearances during Davenport's Florida trip, totaling 19.1 innings with 22 strikeouts and just five earned runs allowed. This season, Tahaney has appeared in eight games with five starts, recording 25 strikeouts over 29.0 innings and holding a team-best 2.17 ERA.
- True freshman Jordan Empie has emerged as Davenport's go-to reliever, appearing in a team-high 10 games while pitching 19.2 innings and facing 75 batters. She has recorded 17 strikeouts, the second-most on the team.
- Offensively, true freshman Chloe Bruman leads the Panthers with a .393 batting average, going 11-for-28 at the plate while adding four stolen bases and a team-best .500 on-base percentage.
- Prasnjak leads the team with 16 hits and 24 total bases while adding 10 runs scored and seven RBI.
- Schwanke (Roscoe, Ill.) leads the Panthers with 11 RBI while contributing 14 hits and a pair of doubles.
Scouting the Opponents
Tiffin
- The Dragons currently sit at 7-7 on the season. Their opening game was a nine-inning thriller against No. 22 UIndy, where Tiffin ultimately fell 2-1.
- The last meeting between the Panthers and Dragons came on March 2, when Tiffin pulled out a 4-2 victory.
- Tiffin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Davenport responded by tying the game at 2-2 in the third. The Dragons regained control later, adding runs in the fifth and seventh innings to pull away.
- True freshman McKenna Scott leads the team with a .447 batting average, recording 21 hits in 47 at-bats. She is also 6-for-7 on stolen base attempts while contributing 13 runs and three RBIs. Scott is tied for the team lead in total bases with 24 alongside Jessica Miller.
- Miller is hitting .304 on the season and leads the team with a .522 slugging percentage while pacing the lineup with 12 RBIs.
- In the circle, just two Dragons have handled the majority of the pitching duties this season. Ella Esterby leads the staff with a 1.81 ERA across 54.0 innings pitched, recording 43 strikeouts while facing 206 batters. Lexi Key has also been a key contributor, tossing 40.2 innings with 36 strikeouts against 158 batters faced. Key holds a 2.75 ERA while limiting opponents to a .222 batting average.
Cedarville
- The Yellow Jackets are currently 6-14 in their 2026 campaign. Cedarville picked up all six of its wins during its time in Florida at the Spring Games, including an upset victory over No. 15 GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley State on March 5. The Yellow Jackets secured the 6-4 win in extra innings.
- The Panthers defeated Cedarville 4-2 in extra innings on March 3. Davenport scored two runs in the top of the first inning before Cedarville responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending the game into extra innings tied.
- Maya Merrill is coming off a recent GMAC Pitcher of the Week honor announced Monday (March 9) after earning the win in Cedarville's upset victory over No. 15 Saginaw Valley State. Merrill struck out 28 batters over 30 innings during the week, including nine strikeouts in the loss against Davenport. She currently holds a 2.98 ERA with 38 strikeouts across 51.2 innings pitched while facing 198 batters this season.
- True freshman Anna Gorshak leads the Yellow Jackets with a .359 batting average, going 23-for-64 at the plate. She has totaled 41 bases while driving in 14 RBIs, including four doubles and four home runs.
Findlay
- The Oilers hold a 12-3 overall record and picked up eight wins during their trip to Florida, highlighted by a dominant 17-4 victory over Bridgeport on March 6.
- Findlay defeated Davenport 7-1 on March 2, scoring consistently throughout the first four innings. The Panthers' lone run came in the top of the fourth.
- Several Oilers are currently hitting over .400 at the plate, with Jenna Poulson leading the way at .481. She is 13-for-27 this season, scoring 11 runs while holding a .500 on-base percentage.
- Meghan Heinsman leads the team with 19 hits and a .617 slugging percentage. She has driven in 11 RBIs, recorded eight doubles, and scored seven runs this season.
- In the circle, Kayla Dykin leads the team with a 1.93 ERA, striking out 29 of the 93 batters she has faced over 25.1 innings of work. Six different pitchers have made appearances for Findlay this season, with Alexys Antal logging the most innings at 31.0.
