Six Seniors Honored as Davenport Hosts Key GLIAC Matchups

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport enters the weekend following a 1–3 stretch, dropping a pair of doubleheaders to Saginaw Valley State before earning a split against GLIAC opponent Wayne State. With the postseason approaching, the Panthers remain locked in a tight race for a spot in the GLIAC Tournament, set for May 7–10 in Crown Point, Indiana, where only the top six teams will advance.

The Panthers return home April 25 to host Roosevelt in a doubleheader that will also serve as Senior Day, honoring six members of the program: Alex Rendon, Ally Prasnjak, Kailyne Luna, Darby Kramp, Kylie Hegland and Ashley Sturgill. Davenport will then close out the weekend April 26 with another key conference matchup, hosting Parkside in a pivotal GLIAC showdown.

This weekend marks a pivotal stretch for the Panthers, who currently sit tied for sixth in the GLIAC standings at 8–12 in conference play alongside Parkside (8–10). Purdue Northwest holds fourth at 9–9, leaving little margin for error down the final stretch. With just a handful of games remaining, every result carries postseason implications, making this weekend a critical opportunity for Davenport to gain ground in the standings.

Top Panthers from the Weekend
  • Luna led the Panthers at the plate, going 4-for-10 with two doubles and an RBI. The Clovis, California native continued to provide a steady presence in the lineup.
  • Prasnjak delivered a key swing in Game 2 against Wayne State, launching a three-run home run to give Davenport a 4–2 lead in what became a 5–2 victory.
  • Savanna Clark, a junior transfer from Macomb CC, recorded a hit in both games against Saginaw Valley State — the only Panther to do so — and was also the lone Davenport player to register a hit off reigning GLIAC Pitcher of the Week Aalana Kimble. Clark finished the weekend 3-for-9 at the plate.
  • In the circle, Kayla Widner picked up a win against Wayne State in relief, entering in the first inning and allowing just three hits with no earned runs while recording two outs. The true freshman now leads the Davenport pitching staff with a team-best 3.29 ERA.
  • Hannah Tahaney also turned in a strong weekend, tossing 10.1 innings across two appearances. The sophomore from Watervliet allowed just five hits and one earned run over four innings against SVSU, and followed with 6.1 innings in a tight 1–0 contest, surrendering just one run. Tahaney continues to lead the Panthers with 77 strikeouts on the season.
Scouting the Opponents
Roosevelt
  • Dating back to the first meeting between the two programs on April 4, Davenport earned a pair of close victories, taking Game 1, 6–5, before securing a 7–5 win in eight innings in Game 2.
  • Roosevelt's offense is led by a balanced group at the top of the lineup, highlighted by Ella Dvoracek, who paces the team with a .346 average and 45 hits while adding speed on the bases (15-for-19 in stolen bases). She's been their most consistent table-setter all season.
  • Kendall Pearson (.306 AVG) and Rebecca Urbaniak (.297 AVG) provide strong support, with Urbaniak leading the team in extra-base production (8 doubles, 2 triples) and total bases (50). Pearson adds versatility with gap power and situational hitting.
  • Sophia Barofsky has been the primary run producer, driving in a team-high 20 RBIs while slugging .408.
  • Roosevelt's pitching staff is anchored by Kailey Hancock, who leads the team with 100.0 innings pitched while posting a 4.06 ERA. She has been their go-to option throughout the season, handling the bulk of the workload in the circle.
  • Riley Czarnecki (4.21 ERA) provides a strong secondary arm, logging 99.2 innings with a team-best six wins and two shutouts.
Parkside
  • Parkside's offense is powered by one of the top hitters in the conference in Mia Johnson, a back-to-back GLIAC Player of the Year who continues to produce at an elite level. Johnson is hitting .461 with 16 home runs and a 1.606 OPS this season, building off a dominant junior campaign where she launched 17 home runs — the second-most in program history — and recorded a 1.290 OPS. A consistent extra-base threat, 34 of her hits last season went for extra bases, making her the centerpiece of the Rangers' lineup.
  • Isabel Aranda (.291 AVG) provides strong protection behind her, driving in 25 runs while adding nine doubles and six home runs. Ava Swain (.264 AVG) and Reese Valha (.248 AVG) round out the top of the order, with Valha contributing a team-high 10 doubles and steady extra-base production.
  • Parkside's pitching staff is led by Casey Jo Vermett, who has been their workhorse in the circle with a team-high 121.1 innings pitched while posting a 3.00 ERA and a 12-7 record. She also leads the staff with 168 strikeouts, giving the Rangers a reliable strikeout option.
  • Holly Lowenberg (2.74 ERA) provides a strong complement, holding opponents to a .260 batting average across 87.0 innings while adding two shutouts. Her ability to limit damage has made her one of Parkside's most effective arms.
