Pawenski and Johnson Named NCBWA and D2CCA All-Midwest Region

Pawenski was a First Team selection and Johnson was recognized as Second Team

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Senior catcher Dylan Pawenski (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) and senior utility/first baseman Justin Johnson (Nunica, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) of the Davenport baseball team were named All-Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Friday and the D2CCA on Monday.

Pawenski had a breakout offensive season increasing his batting average from .277 last season to .388 this season. He played in 52 games and made 50 starts, but had to sit out during the NCAA regional due to injury. He finished with 50 runs scored, 73 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, and 65 RBIs. He entered the single-season record book at Davenport this year ranking third in home runs and second in RBIs. His .681 slugging percentage checks in fifth. He concluded the season with 20 multi-RBI games including a season-high seven on Feb. 27 at Quincy, which is tied for second in a game in DU history. Pawenski put together a 10-game hit streak which started on Mar. 11 vs. St. Cloud State and ended on Mar. 27 against Wayne State. Pawenski was fourth in the GLIAC in batting average, third in home runs, third in RBIs, and first in slugging percentage.

Johnson saw an increase in his batting average from .330 as a junior to .368 this year. He played and started in 57 games and finished with 58 runs scored, 81 hits, 17 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs and 55 RBIs. He made his mark on the single-season record book at DU where he is now tied for eighth with a .478 on-base percentage, fifth in runs scored, tied for fifth in hits, tied for sixth in home runs, and tied for eighth in RBIs. He was also hit by pitch 22 times which is second in a season at DU. Johnson was fourth in the GLIAC in total bases (133), third in doubles, first in hit by pitch, fifth in hits, fifth in home runs, fourth in runs scored, and fourth in RBIs.

The Panthers went 30-28 this season and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional for the second straight time.
