Bulldogs Take Friday Doubleheader From Panthers in Big Rapids

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport softball dropped both games of Friday's GLIAC doubleheader against Ferris State at FSU Softball Field, falling 8-0 in Game 1 before dropping a 12-4 decision in Game 2.

Game One
DU was held to two hits in the opener, with Chloe Bruman and Ally Prasnjak each chipping in one.

Ferris State broke through in the third inning, plating two runs after Jadyn Joseph singled and later scored despite a diving stop from Kailyne Luna at shortstop. Luna ranged to her left to keep the ball on the infield, but the Bulldogs were able to take advantage on the play before Ava Gardner added an RBI single to center, giving FSU a 2-0 lead.

FSU created separation in the fourth, scoring five runs in the frame. Jayden Marlatt opened the inning with a solo home run to left-center before Ella McDonald added an RBI single. Gardner later delivered the big swing of the inning, barreling a low line drive with heavy backspin that kept carrying until it cleared the fence for a three-run home run, stretching the Bulldogs' lead to 7-0.

The Bulldogs added its final run in the fifth after Emma Gillard tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly, sealing the 8-0 run-rule victory.

Hannah Tahaney started in the circle for Davenport, throwing 3.2 innings while allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Julia Perry entered in relief, tossing 0.2 innings and allowing one run on one hit.

Game Two
Davenport found more offensive rhythm in Game 2, with several Panthers stepping into extended opportunities and contributing at the plate as DU finished with eight hits and three doubles. However, Ferris State's six-run second inning created an early deficit the Panthers were unable to overcome.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the second, using an RBI single from Molly Versluis, a two-run double from Kozlowski and an RBI single from Gardner to jump ahead 6-0.

Ferris State added two more in the third as Kozlowski drove in Ella McDonald and Versluis with a single to second base, extending the lead to 8-0.

Davenport broke through in the fourth when Chloe Parker doubled to left field and later scored on an RBI single from Kylie Hegland, cutting the deficit to 8-1.

FSU answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to 12-1, but the Panthers continued to battle in the fifth. Alex Rendon started the frame with a single before Luna drove her in with an RBI double. Parker followed with an RBI single, and Prasnjak added an RBI double to make it 12-4.

Luna and Parker led the Panthers offensively with two hits apiece. Luna finished 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Parker went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Hegland added an RBI single and a walk, while Prasnjak recorded an RBI double.

Alaina Schwanke started in the circle for DU, while Jordan Empie, Kayla Widner and Hailey Whisman also appeared in relief.
