Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Panthers offense has carried them to an impressive 9-1 start and the matchup against cross-town rival GVSU on Thursday afternoon was nothing short of offensive once again. DU used a 8-4 second half advantage to down the #6 ranked Lakers 16-14 in the rainy and windy conditions.
Grand Valley came out hot from the start as they scored the first goal less than a minute into the game but Shawn Beer kept the Panthers alive early on with three goals in the first period. GVSU used some mistakes by the Panthers and scored five of the last eight goals in the first half to build their lead to 10-8 at halftime and looked to be taking full control of the game.
Davenport regrouped and got warm in the locker room and immediately transfered it to the field as they kept the Lakers offense in check. DU found themselves trailing 13-10 with just over 7:00 to play in the third period but five straight goals (three more from Shawn Beer) propelled the Panthers to a 15-13 lead that they would never give up.
Jake Stricker earned the win while stopping 14 shots and Micka Ravuth and RJ Bogdanski were both solid in the midfield.
Beer ended the day with seven goals and Jeff Heglund added four goals and three assists.
Davenport improves to 10-1 on the year while this is only the first loss of the season for Grand Valley.
