GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kristi Boehm posted 17 points, 6 assists and 4 steals as the #2 ranked Lady Panthers handed visiting Trinity International a 99-67 loss in the second game of the 2010-11 Panther Invitational. DU will face Robert Morris, a 73-65 winner over Grace, on Saturday at 4:00pm in the championship game.
Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) poured in a game high 17 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor and Leah Sevcik (Kewaunee, Wis.) posted 14 points off the bench as DU improved to 4-0 the year with the convincing win in the semifinals of the Panther Invitational. In the first game of the tourney, Robert Morris (Ill.) came back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat Grace College (Ind.) 73-65.
Davenport struggled from the field in the opening half as the hit only 38% of their shots but managed to lead the Trojans by 10 (43-33). The Lady Panthers then turned it up a notch in the second half while shooting 45% from the floor as they built as big as a 36 point lead.
Davenport trailed 21-15 at the 8:57 mark of the opening half but used an 8-1 run to take only their second lead of the game and never trailed from that point on. Highlighting the 28-12 run to end the half were 10 points from Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.), and six from Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) on back to back three-point field goals.
The Trojans (2-4) cut the 10 point lead at the break to eight on a basket on their first possession but it would be all Davenport over the next 10 minutes as they used a 31-9 run to open a 30 point lead with only 9:51 remaining. Every player on DU's roster played at least nine minutes in the game and no players logged more than 21.
Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) and Leah Sevcik (Kewaunee, Wis.) were joined in double-digit scoring by senior Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) who finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Nine players for the Lady Panthers finished with at least six points as the DU bench outscored the Trojans' 51-24.
Davenport (4-0 overall) returns to action Saturday at 4:00pm against Robert Morris (4-1 overall). The game will be aired live on the DAN and live stats will be available.
