Lady Panthers Claim Panther Invite with 105-71 Win over Robert Morris

Davenport travels to Georgetown next weekend for two big matchups agains NAIA D1 foes

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Davenport won the 2010 Women's Basketball Panther Invite by defeating Robert Morris (Ill.) 105-71. The win improves the Panthers record to 5-0 on the season and they will next be in action when they travel to Georgetown, Ky. for the Georgetown College Jim Reid Classic next weekend.

Both teams exchanged baskets in the opening minutes but with the game tied at eight, Davenport went on a 13-3 run to take a 21-11 lead and the rout was on. Junior Julie Janish (Whittemore, Mich.) scored four of her 13 points during this run.

After a layup by Robert Morris, the Panthers scored nine straight points to open the lead up to 30-13. Davenport finished the half on a 26-8 run to give them a 56-24 lead heading into the locker room. Carrie Grubius (Kalamazoo, Mich.) had 15 of her 19 points in the first half to help the Panthers widen the lead. She shot 80% from the field and went 3-5 from behind the arc.

Starting the second half, Davenport went on a 15-5 run early that was highlighted by a pair of three pointers by Kristi Boehm (Kent City, Mich.) to extend their lead. Boehm, who inched closer to a 1000 career points, finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. At the conclusion of the tournament, Kristi was named the tournament MVP.

Kallie Benike (Campbellsport, Wis.) made some key shots down the stretch to preserve the blow-out win as the All-American guard ended with 16 points and a team leading 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Benike joined teammate Boehm on the All-Tournament Team as well.

Robert Morris made it to the championship game by beating Grace College (Ind.) 73-65 on Friday evening.

Davenport will next be in action on Friday, November 19 for the Georgetown College Jim Reid Classic in Georgetown, Ky. Davenport's first game will be against 12th ranked NAIA Division 1 University of Cumberlands (Ky.). Then on Saturday the Panthers will face NAIA Division 1 Georgetown College (Ky.) who is receiving votes in the NAIA Division 1 Coaches Poll.
