FORT WAYNE, Ind. - #2 Davenport prepped for their showdown with Grand Valley State next week with an convincing 18-5 win over MCLA newcomer Indiana Tech. The Panthers are now 11-1 on the year and will host the Lakers on Thursday, April 15 at 5:00 PM.
Having defeated Calvin College last week to reach the 10 win milestone for the 3rd straight year, the Panthers traveled to Fort Wayne to take on MCLA newcomer Indiana Tech.
DU scored five goals in the opening period while not allowing any and cruised to the 18-5 win.
Five different players scored in the opening 15 minutes for Davenport as Jordy Sayers (Davison, Mich.) got things started just 1:03 into the game. Lyke Parks (Troy, Mich.) followed with one of his four goals on the game and the rout was on.
The lead would grow to six goals as the Panthers scored the first of the second period when Shawn Beer (Aurora, Ontario) scored the first of his game high five goals. The junior is currently leading the Panthers in scoring with 55 goals through 12 games.
After the Warriors scored their first goal with 10:51 to play in the 2nd, DU would score two of the final three goals to take an 8-2 lead into the break.
Shawn Beer and Lyle Parks then combined to score all six of Davenport's goals in the 3rd period while the defense only allowed two more to give the Panthers a 14-4 lead heading into the final period.
Three more different players for Davenport got into the scoring in the final period as Danny Christoffersen (San Diego, Calif.), Jonathon Frank (Wallingford, Conn.) and TJ Roney (Grand Rapids, Mich.) each scored.
Zach Higgins (Courtice, Ontario) earned his 4th win of the year in net as he helped the Panthers to 11-1 overall.
Davenport will host rival Grand Valley State on Thursday, April 15 at the Turf Field.
