Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-Davenport faced off against MCHC opponent Calvin College on Friday night. Calvin and Davenport both came into Friday's game with only loss on the season. Davenport started off slow, but received a strong performance from their top line as
Mike Soto and
Bryon Guerin both netted two goals.
Davenport did not get off the start the Head Coach
Chris Green hoped they would as Calvin scored 36 seconds into the game. “I was disappointed in the way we came out tonight in the first period” commented Green. “But I was proud of the way our guys battled back after falling behind early. The boys showed great effort and played with great intensity the rest of the game.”
After allowing the goal in the first minute the Panthers rattled off six straight goals before allowing a goal in the last two minutes of the game.
Mike Soto tied the game up for the Panthers on a power play goal. Garret Russell split two defenders and found the stick of Soto waiting right outside the crease.
Unlike the 1
st period, Davenport started of fast in the second period. Only 16 seconds into the 2
nd John Brooks launched a puck at the net that found its way through a cluster of players and into the back of the net. Later in the period
Bryon Guerin scored the Panthers second power play goal of the night on assists from Soto and Russell.
Davenport came out firing on all cylinders in the third period and put the game out of reach.
Chad Ouellette and Soto scored goals only 11 seconds apart. Later on Guerin added his second power play goal of the game on and assist from Ouellette. Calvin added a goal in the final minutes on a 5-3 and the Panthers finished with a 6-2 victory.
