Pontiac, Mich. – Davenport cruised to a 21-0 shutout victory of Northwood University on Sunday. The shutout was the first in the Panthers history. The win improves the Panthers to 2-0 on the season. Davenport will be in action again next weekend when they begin their tour of the south playing a game in Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina.
Davenport picked up right where they left off on Saturday, jumping out to an early lead on a Sam Carlson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) goal just over three minutes into the game.
Lyle Parks (Troy, Mich.) added his first of three first half goals at the 8:54 mark in the first quarter to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage. Two minutes later Quintin St. Clair (Grand Blanc, Mich.) added a goal to increase Davenport's lead to three.
With 22 second left in the opening quarter, Oliver Wade (Burlington, Ontario) scored on a pass from Jordan Richtsmeier (Grand Rapids, Mich.) to make the Panthers advantage 4-0 at the end of one.
Northwood's goalie came up with some big saves to keep Davenport scoreless in the first several minutes of the second quarter until Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.) got one pass at the 7:17 mark.
Lyle Parks scored his second and third goals of the game in a 25 second span late in the second quarter. Taylor Stark (Wauwatosa, Wis.) added a goal of his own with 2:37 remaining to increase the Panthers lead to 8-0 which would hold until halftime.
Davenport got a couple goals early in the third quarter by Kyle Stelter (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Jordy Sayers (Davison, Mich.).
The Panthers went on a run late in the quarter scoring five goals in the last three and half minutes highlighted by a behind the back goal from Oliver Wade.
Despite the big lead, Davenport kept the pressure on scoring six goal in the final quarter.
Lyle Parks and Grant Hamilton (Flint, Mich.) each recorded hat tricks and five other players scored multiple goals. In all, twelve different players scored for the Panthers. Dominic Boggiano led the team with 6 assists, he also recorded 2 goals.
Justin Scott (Canton, Mich.) started the game and played the first three quarters stopping the two shots he faced. Zach Higgins came in for the fourth quarter and stopped three shots to preserve the shut out.
The Panthers dominated from the beginning outshooting Northwood 64-5. Davenport also won the groundballs 43-7 and face-offs 21-4.
Davenport will be in action again next weekend. They play at Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday in Athens, Tenn., then travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Emory College on Sunday before concluding the road trip in Elon, N.C. at Elon University on Tuesday.
