DU Lax Suffers 11-10 Defeat on Late Goal

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A late goal with 13 seconds remaining gave No. 14 North Dakota State an 11-10 victory over No. 5 Davenport on Sunday in the Panthers' last game of their Minnesota road trip. The Panthers drop to 10-4 on the season as they play Hope College on Thursday.

The Panthers got off to a hot start, scoring the first three goals for the game for an early 3-0 score. Jordan Richtsmeier (Grand Rapids, Mich.)Sam Carlson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Cody Cross (Grand Rapids, Mich.) all notched goals during the quick start.

After falling behind 4-1, the Bison tallied the next five scores, taking the lead at 6-4 heading into halftime.

Carlson and Cross each added their score goals in the third period, however, NDSU countered with two goals of their own to keep the two goal margin at 8-6.

Down two in the fourth period, the Panthers netted three straight goals to take their first lead of the second half at 9-8. The two teams traded goals to keep the one goal advantage for the Panthers at 10-9. Jordy Sayers (Davison, Mich.) had his own personal three-goal run during the fourth period stretch. The Bison evened the score at 10-10 with 3:37 remaining in the contest.  

SDSU scored the game winner with 13 seconds remaining to give them the 11-10 win.

Cross and Sayers led the DU offense with three goals apiece.

Justin Scott (Canton, Mich.) made the start in goal for the Panthers, allowing 10 goals and six saves. Zach Higgins played the last 3 minutes, allowing the final Bison goal.

The Panthers return to the field on Thursday when DU takes on Hope College at 7:00 p.m.
