HOLLAND, Mich. – The Panthers' offense exploded for 20 goals, winning 20-12 over the host Dutchmen of Hope College. The win improves Davenport's record to 11-4 on the season and the Panthers return home for their regular season finale against Ferris State University next Thursday.
After a close first 10 minutes, which saw the Panthers lead 3-2, DU scored seven straight goals to take control of the game at 10-2. After trading goals back and forth, the Panthers went into halftime up 12-4.
The Panthers continued to dominate early in the second half, scoring the first two goals to open up a double digit advantage over the Dutchmen at 14-4. The 10 goal lead held up for the rest of the third quarter as the Panthers led 18-8 after 45 minutes of play.
Two more shots found the back of the net for the Panthers in the fourth quarter, while the host Dutchman scored four.
Jordan Richtsmeier (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Shawn Beer (Aurora, Ontario), Jordy Sayers (Davison, Mich.) and Cody Cross (Grand Rapids, Mich.) all notched hat-tricks for the Panthers, while Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Oliver Wade (Burlington, Ontario) and Gavin Morris (Rockford, Mich.) all tallied two goals. Nine Panthers scored in the game.
Zach Higgins (Courtice, Ontario) turned in another stellar performance in goal for the Panthers, stopping 18 shots and allowing 12 goals.
The Panthers return home for their home finale next Thursday against Ferris State University at 7:00 p.m. at the DU Turf Field.
