COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - No. 5 Davenport will meet No. 12 Utah Valley State in the opening round of the 2011 MCLA D2 National Tournament on Tuesday, May 17 at 3:00 pm EST. The two teams are part of an action packed day that will see 16 D1 and 16 D2 teams play in the opening round. Live video and stats will be provided.

The Opponent: #12 Utah Valley State
Utah Valley, last year's national runner-up, comes into the contest with an 8-3 regular season record. The Wolverines went 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference playoffs, defeating Metro State, 12-8, in the first round before falling 8-7 to Northern Colorado in the semifinals. Westminster College won the RMLC playoffs as the Griffins defeated Northern Colorado 13-12 in the championship game.
Three freshmen attackers lead the Wolverines in scoring. Jordan Gerber leads the offense in goals and points as the Sandy, Utah native as totaled 27 goals and 12 assists. Zachary Zdunich is another offensive threat, scoring 24 goals, which places him second on the team. Freddy Davis is third on the team in goals as the Spanish Fork, Utah native has 20 goals for the Wolverines to go along with nine assists. Utah Valley's lead setup man is another freshman, Cam Edmunds, who totals 13 assists. He also adds 14 goals.
Tyler Spendlove gives the team some experience at midfield as he is the main offense threat from the position, scoring 12 goals and adding nine assists. Fellow junior Lance Nielsen is another midfielder who adds valuable experience to the young team.
The Wolverines goaltender is another freshman, Wesley LeFevre, who has started all 11 games for Utah Valley. The Sandy, Utah native has a 6.09 goals against average and a 0.667 save percentage. In the 11 games, LeFevre has given up 67 goals and made 134 saves.
