COMMERCE CITY, Mich. - The Davenport Panthers needed three games and four overtimes to finally defeat rival Grand Valley State on Friday at Dicks Sporting Goods Park. Senior Shawn Beer (Aurora, Ontario) scored the winning goal in the final overtime to give DU the win. The Panthers take on St. Thomas tomorrow in the MCLA D2 National Championship game.

GVSU defeated DU twice during the regular season, but the Panthers won the most important game, defeating the Lakers in the National Tournament.

Overtime was four minutes long each period with sudden death rules. The three previous overtimes saw neither team find the back of the net before Beer scored the game winner.

Beer led the Panthers' offense with six goals and two assists, including the game winner. Cody Cross (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.) both had three goals. Jordan Richtsmeier (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was the top set up man with three assists.

Zach Higgins (Courtice, Ontario) started in goal for the Panthers in the first half, allowing nine goals. Alexis Buque (Whitby, Ontario) played the second half, making nine saves and allowing six goals.

The Panthers play St. Thomas tomorrow in the MCLA D2 National Championship game.
