Box Score SALINE, Mich. – Davenport overcame a halftime deficit and a strong surge late in the third quarter by Dayton to defeat the Flyers 18-13 in the semifinal match-up of the CCLA Tournament. The Panthers will face Grand Valley State in the CCLA Tournament Championship Saturday at 7:00 PM.
Davenport fell behind early with Dayton scoring three unanswered to start the game. The Panthers responded with goals by Oliver Wade (Burlington, Ontario) and Sam Carlson (Grand Rapids, Mich.). After another goal by Dayton, Davenport got goals from Shawn Beer (Aurora, Ontario) and Nathaniel Adkins (Canal Winchester, Ohio) to tie the game at four through the first period.
Dayton scored the first goal of the second period but Davenport scored the next three to give the Panthers a 7-5 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the half. Davenport's goals were scored by Oliver Wade, Sam Carlson, and Shawn Beer. Davenport wasn't able to hold that lead for long as Dayton closed the half on a 3-0 run to take the halftime lead 8-7.
The game of runs continued in the second half. Jordan Richtsmeier (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Beer, and Wade opened the second half with goals for Davenport to give the Panthers a 10-8 lead. After another 3-goal run by the Flyers to give Dayton an 11-10 lead, Davenport and Dayton exchanged goals to finish the third quarter with Dayton on top 12-11.
The fourth quarter, however, was all Davenport. A pair of goals by Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and a goal by Carlson and Cody Cross (Grand Rapids, Mich.) to start the quarter gave Davenport a 15-12 lead. A Dayton goal cut the lead to two but they would not be able to get any closer. Shawn Beer scored two more goals and Oliver Wade added another goal with 6 second left in the game to preserve the 18-13 win.
Zach Higgins (Courtice, Ontario) started the game for Davenport giving up 12 goals and making 8 saves in 40 minutes. Alexis Buque (Whitby, Ontario) got the win for Davenport playing the last 20 minutes and making 7 saves while allowing only 1 goal.
