Strong Second-Half Performance Rewards No. 12 Lady Panthers Fifth Win

Tiesha Stokes' double-double helped the Panthers earn their fifth win Friday.

IRVINE, Calif. – After entering halftime with a 34-30 lead, the 12th-ranked Davenport women's basketball team scored 40 points in the second half to run away with a 74-51 victory over Concordia (Calif.) Friday evening. Tiesha Stokes led the effort with the Panthers second double-double of the season.
 
The freshman from Grand Rapids manufactured 15 points and 12 rebounds, six offensively and defensively each, to also record her second double-double. Karli Harris paced the team with 19 points and was followed by Stokes' 15 and Leah Sevcik's 10. Davenport's shooting percentages in the two halves were identical. The Lady Panthers went 12-for-33 (36 percent) in the first half and 13-for-31 (42 percent) in the second.
 
The lead changed five times in the opening half and no team led more than six points. The Lady Panthers trailed as much as five points with 14:29 left. After tying the game for the fourth time at 19 points with 8:53 left,
 
After tying for the sixth and seventh time at the start of the second half, Stokes' free throw at the 17:15 mark would ignite a 13-0 run that would eventually put the game out of the Eagles reach. Although the Eagles would bring the lead down to 10 with 12:56 left, the Lady Panthers used a 23-10 run the rest of the way to complete the 74-51 lead.
 
The Lady Panthers tour in California concludes Saturday at San Diego Christian. Tipoff is at 8:30 p.m. EST.
 
Post-Game Notes
 
Davenport improves its record to 5-0 on the season…Karli Harris has scored in double digits and tallied more than five steals in all five games…Davenport matched its season-best in rebounds with 44 total, tying the game against Marygrove…the Lady Panthers went 20-for-25 on the charity line for a 80 percentile, the highest this season.
