Stokes' Big Night Leads Panthers to 85-72 Victory Over San Diego Christian

Tiesha Stokes has all of Davenport's double-doubles this season.

EL CAJON, Calif. – Tiesha Stokes comes through again. After getting her first career start, the freshman scored a season-best 25 points and collected 13 rebounds for her second straight double-double to help the 12th-ranked Davenport women's basketball team down San Diego Christian 85-72 Saturday evening.
 
Kendra Cook and Emily Nielsen both contributed 15 points each while Cook and Karli Harris were successful on the free throw line. Cook went 11-for-12 from behind the charity stripe while Harris went 7-for-8. Alison Bouman also had a productive day, manufacturing eight points and rebounds each.
 
Davenport was dominant on the boards, outrebounding San Diego Christian 55-40.
 
Stokes got the game going with the first two points at 18:21, and although the Hawks countered with two points at 16:33, Harris made two successful free throws to start a 10-0 run in 2:52. All 10 points were layups by Bouman, Cook and Stokes.
 
The Hawks would close out the opening half on a 10-3 run to make the score 40-34 Lady Panthers at the half.
 
The momentum switched to Davenport at the start of the second half. Cook started the half off with a pair of free throws followed by a layup, Harris nailed two free throws before two successful layups by Stokes gave the Panthers a 50-39 lead with 18:13 left. Nielsen would help build a 17-point lead with three layups the span of 1:26.
 
Harris' layup with 6:18 left extended the Panthers lead to 83-59, making it the largest deficit in the game.
 
The Hawks built a rhythm in the final three minutes when a 7-0 run cut the lead to 13 at the sound of the final buzzer.
 
The Panthers will return to Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference play for the next four contests, starting with a road trip to Northwestern Ohio Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
 
Post-Game Notes
 
Davenport improves its record to 6-0 on the season…The Lady Panthers have only recorded three double-doubles this season, all by Stokes…It is only the second game of the season Davenport has outrebounded its opponents, the last being against Marygrove.
