GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport returned home for their first home game of the season for a CCLA match-up against #2 Dayton. The fifth-ranked Panthers used a 3-0 run and a 4-0 run to close out each half to pull away from the flyers. Davenport improves to 5-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

Jordan Richtsmeier got the Panthers off to a quick start with a goal 20 second into the opening quarter.  After a Dayton goal tied the game at one, Taylor Keyworth scored an unassisted goal to give the Panthers the lead. But once again, Dayton battled back to tie the game before a Dominic Boggiano goal just before the end of the quarter gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead.

It was a series of runs for both teams in the second quarter. Dayton's Rich Meares scored two straight to start the second quarter and give the Flyers their first lead of the game. The Panthers responded by closing out the half with three unanswered goals. Cody Cross scored the first goal followed by two Richtsmeier goals to give the Panthers a 6-4 lead at the half.

Dayton struck quick in the third quarter cutting the deficit to one less than thirty seconds into the second half. Then Richtsmeier scored his third consecutive goal, fourth of the game, to give the Panthers a two goal advantage. The back and forth style of play continued with Dayton scoring with three minutes to play in the third to cut the Davenport lead to 7-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

It was all Davenport to start the fourth. Cody Cross scored his second goal of the game less than a minute into the quarter and Lyle Parks added his first of two fourth quarter goals a couple minutes later to extend the Davenport lead to three. A goal by Jack Turcotte and the second goal by Parks closed out the game for the Panthers. Dayton added a goal with 18 seconds remaining to make the final 11-7 in favor of the Panthers.

Jordan Richtsmeier led the Panthers with four goals. Lyle Parks and Cody Cross each netted a pair of goals for the Panthers. Parks also had an assist. Dominic Boggiano also had multiple points on the day with one goal and two assists.

Alexis Buque got the win in net for the Panthers allowing seven goals and making 22 saves.

Davenport will be in action again next weekend when they travel to play at the University of Wisconsin in Wales, Wis. and at St. Johns in Chicago.

Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach Bob Clarkson on strong second half - "We started a little slow but closed out the first half with a spark and then in the second, our offense kicked it in.  We pushed the ball into some traffic early but made some adjustments.  If our team gets some looks, we will score some goals."

Junior Jordan Richtsmeier on coming back strong after 1-2 weekend in St. Louis -  "We worked very hard in practice all week and the perserverence paid off.  We didn't want to start out slow and we were able to win every quarter."

Sophomore Alexis Buque on strong defensive performance - "We focused on the quick slide and our D and we came together as a unit.  Coach wanted us to focus on pushing until the end and keep working hard and give 100 %."

Sophomore Kyle Stelter on leadership and growing together as a team - "We were playing pretty good early and did not play well in St. Louis and today we picked it up behind the leadership of a lot of the attack unit of Dom Boggiano, Jordan Richtsmeier, Lyle Parks and Cody Cross."
