Men's Tennis Climbs over .500 with Wins over Taylor and Huntington

UPLAND-HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Davenport picked up two non-league wins on Saturday afternoon as they now sit over .500 on the season with a record of 9-8.  DU downed the Trojans 8-1 before ousting the Foresters 6-3.  Davenport returns to action on Monday in a non-conference match with Calvin.

Taylor - Win 8-1

Davenport jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in doubles play and won five of the six singles matches to post a convincing 8-1 win over the Trojans. At No. 3 doubles, the duo of Tyler Chambers and Eric Pell won a dramatic 9-8 match while DU won 8-2 at No. 1 and 8-4 at No. 2.

On the singles side, Davenport dropped No. 1 but then won the rest without dropping a set. The final three singles matches were quick wins by Davenport as Keaton Briggs won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6, Tyler Chambers won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and Eric Pell won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Huntington - Win 6-3

In a back and forth doubles session, Davenport came away with two of the three points. The Panthers fought back in two of those matches from three games down to win as they again posted wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

DU got those wins from the teams of Pell/Chambers as well as Briggs/Mattheus Carvalho.

The singles side was a little bit closer than that of the Taylor match as the host Foresters took the top two matches with Victor Roland dropping a three set thriller at No. 2 (2-6, 6-1, 6-2).

Picking up the clinching point was Keaton Briggs who played at No. 5 singles as Briggs swept all 12 games from his opponent.

Davenport is now 9-8 on the season and will play in five matches this week starting on Monday in a non-conference match with Calvin. The Panthers also play all four of their WHAC matches against Cornerstone, Indiana Tech, Aquinas and UNOH.

Post-Match Quotes - Patrick Grashorn

Heading into a long week next week. 3 matches for the women and 5 for the men. This weekend was a good springboard into our tough conference matches next week.
