HOUGHTON, Mich. — Davenport men's tennis edged out a tight 4-3 victory over Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Gates Tennis Center, securing a key GLIAC win.
The Panthers found themselves in a hole after MTU took two of three doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. The duo of Laurent Teysseire and Landon Coates earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles for the Huskies, while Haitam Aboufirassi and Dorian Pettengill battled to a 7-6 victory at No. 2.
Jaden Bender and
Simone Pacciolla for the Panthers won their match with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
In singles action, Davenport secured the match with four wins.
Adrian Constantin at No. 2 dropped the first set, but rallied for the win (2-6, 6-3, 6-4). Bender at No. 4 had very little trouble over Andres Horobeanu (6-0, 6-2).
Rudiger Dusselberg at No. 5 had a tight first set 7-6 (12-10), but then cruised to a 6-2 win in the second set against Haitam Aboufirassi.
Reuben Bakker at No. 6, had great success against Dorian Pettengill (6-2, 6-0).
With the win, Davenport improves to 9-12 overall and 2-3 in GLIAC play, while Michigan Tech falls to 4-12 (0-6 GLIAC). Up next, the regular season finale on April 18 against GVSU.
