FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Davenport held off a stingy Indiana Tech team 16-14 to wrap-up the regular season.  With the game tied, Davenport scored three of the last four goals to get the win. The Panthers finish the regular season at 11-4 overall and 6-0 in CCLA play.

Cody Cross got the Panthers off on the right foot scoring the first two goals of the game in the opening minutes of play. After Daniel Hume scored 4:30 minutes into the first quarter, Davenport held a 3-0 lead.

Indiana Tech finished the first quarter with four unanswered goals and continued that streak with a goal to start the second quarter. But Davenport would battle back and match the Warriors five-goal run with one of their own. Dominic Boggiano, Lyle Parks, Jordan Richtsmeier, Daniel Hume, and Jack Turcotte each had goals during the Panther run.

Indiana Tech broke the Davenport run with a man-down goal with just over two minutes to play in the half. Cody Cross scored his third goal of the game with 17 second remaining in the second quarter to give the Panthers a 9-6 halftime lead.

The third quarter was low scoring compared the first half. Cross and Boggiano added to the Davenport total early in the third, pushing the Panthers lead to five. Indiana Tech responded with two goals to close out the third and cut their deficit to three.

After Indiana Tech scored two more goals to start the fourth, the Panthers came back with goals by Jack Turcotte and Taylor Keyworth to maintain a three goal lead. But the Warriors wouldn't go away and scored three unanswered goals to pull even with the Panthers with just over seven minutes to play in the game.

With just over five minutes remaining, Davenport thought they had netted the go ahead goal but it was waived off by the officials. In what could have been a shift in momentum to the Warriors the Panthers kept battling and scored two goals, by Boggiano and Parks, in the next minute to give Davenport a little breathing room.

But once again, Indiana Tech didn't give up and scored with 3:40 remaining in the game to pull within one goal. With 42 seconds to play Jordan Richtsmeier was able to put away his second goal of the game to seal it for the Panthers.

Davenport finishes the season with a 11-4 overall record and a 6-0 record against CCLA opponents including wins over the three other CCLA Division winners Grand Valley State, Dayton, and Indiana Tech. Davenport will host a first round CCLA Conference Tournament game next Saturday at the DU Turf Field, the opponent is to be determined.

Post-Game Quote – Head Coach Bob Clarkson

Thoughts on Game – “Our offense performed well today with 16 goals. We took too many penalties and we will need to shore that up before the playoffs. We had some moments of playing really well today but will need to put together a complete 60 minutes to go far in the playoffs.”

Post-Game Notes

The 14 goals scored by Indiana Tech are the most the Panthers have allowed this season…Davenport finished unbeaten in CCLA play (6-0) for the first time since the 2009 season.
