MLAX Preview: #5 Davenport vs. Aquinas - CCLA Tournament First Round

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport, the winner of three straight games against Top 20 opponents, will begin the CCLA Tournament this Saturday with a match-up against Aquinas College. This will be the fourth meeting all-time between these two team with the Panthers winning the previous three. Davenport and Aquinas will face-off on Saturday at 3:00 PM at the DU Turf Field.
 
Last Meeting: After facing the Saints to open the 2011 season, a 23-4 Panthers win, the two teams met again in the first round of the CCLA Tournament. The Panthers got big games from Jordan Richtsmeier and Shawn Beer who both netted six goals for Davenport. Lyle Parks (3), Jack Turcotte (3), and Dominic Boggiano (2) also scored multiple goals for the Panthers. Davenport opened the game with an 11-0 run and then added a 9-0 run to take a 20-1 advantage and went on to win 25-2.
 
Davenport Overview: Davenport is coming off an 11-4 season that saw the Panthers go 6-0 in CCLA play including wins over the other three CCLA Division winners (Grand Valley State, Dayton, and Indiana Tech). Last week saw the Panthers pick up two wins over CCLA opponents with a 16-9 win against No. 14 Hope at home and then a 16-14 win over No. 16 Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind. Davenport went 7-3 this season against MCLA D2 teams ranked in the Top 20. Davenport is 4-3 in their three appearances in the CCLA Tournament.
 
Davenport Player to Watch:  Dominic Boggiano is currently second on the team with 53 points this season. His 27 goals is good for third on the team while his 27 goals is second. In Davenport's two wins last week against Hope and Indiana Tech, Boggiano tallied five goals and six assists to lead the Panthers.

Aquinas Overview: Aquinas finished the regular season with an 9-7 overall record. The Saints enter this match-up having won four of their last five games with wins over Northwood, Siena Heights, Ferris State, and Oakland. The lone loss came in a 3-16 decision against Grand Valley State. This will be Aquinas' second appearance in the CCLA Tournament.
 
Aquinas Player to Watch: Nate McCorry leads the Saints with 29 goals and 53 points on the season. McCorry's 24 assists is good for second on the team behind Tyler Rosema's 30. In the last two game, McCorry has recorded five goals and six assists including a three goal and six assists game against Oakland.
 
Up Next: The winner of this match-up will play the winner of the Dayton/Grove City match-up at Saline High School on Friday, May 4th at 7:00 PM in the Semifinals. The Championship will take place on Saturday, May 5th at 4:00 PM.
