Men's Lacrosse National Tournament Page

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Davenport looks to begin the defense of their 2011 MCLA DII National Championship on Monday at 1:00 PM in a match up with Concordia (Calif.). The Panthers had an early exit from the CCLA Conference Tournament but look to rebound and make another run deep in the National Tournament.

Last Meeting: This is the first meeting between Davenport and Concordia (Calif.).

Davenport Overview: Davenport ended the regular season with three good wins over No. 2 GVSU in overtime, No. 14 Hope, and No. 16 Indiana Tech. After defeating Aquinas in the opening round of the CCLA Tournament, the Panthers stalled in the semifinals falling to Dayton. The Panthers allowed a season high 17 goals in the loss. Davenport will use the experience they gained this year playing one of the toughest schedules in the country and playing most of their games on the road and at neutral sites to rebound and make a deep run in the tournament.

Davenport Players to Watch:   Davenport will look to Cody Cross to get the Panthers going offensively. Named to the 1st Team All-CCLA, Cross led Davenport with 38 goals on the season.

Concordia Overview: Concordia received an at-large bid to the National Tournament after finishing the season with a 14-4 record. The Eagles finished tied for first in the Pacific division with Grand Canyon, who also qualified for the National Tournament, and Cal State Fullerton. In the SLC Conference Tournament, Concordia fell to Cal State Fullerton in the semifinals after receiving a first round bye. Davenport must be on their game defensively as Concordia averages 14.67 goals per game.

Concordia Player to Watch: Concordia will rely heavily on Josh Fagan. The freshman attackman led the Eagles with 70 goals and tallied 15 assist to earn him a spot on the SLC 1st Team All-Conference and the SLC All-Freshman team.

Up Next: The winner of this match-up will play the winner of the Westminster/St. Mary's match-up. The second round match up will take place on Tuesday at 10:30 AM.
