MLAX Preview: Davenport vs. Westminster

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Davenport got off to a good start in the National Tournament with a 19-12 win over Concordia Monday afternoon. The Panthers will look to continue that success against Westminster Tuesday morning. Westminster is the third-overall seed after going 15-2 in the regular season.
 
Last Meeting: This is the second meeting between Davenport and Westminster. The previous meeting was in February 2009 when Davenport defeated the then No. 1 ranked Griffins 12-10 at a neutral location.
 
Davenport Overview: Davenport struck early and often in their opening round win over Concordia (Calif.). Dominic Boggiano led the Panthers with seven goals and one assist. Lyle Parks also had a big game with five goals while Cody Cross and Quintin St. Clair each had two goals for Davenport. Jordan Richtsmeier led Davenport with seven assists. Davenport has played on consecutive days twice this season and the Panthers are 2-0 in the second games this season.

Davenport Players to Watch:   Dominic Boggiano led the Panthers in their opening round win over Concordia with seven goals and an assist. The sophomore attackman now has 37 goals and 27 assists on the year and is second on the team in points with 64.

Westminster Overview: Westminster has a 15-2 overall record this season and received an automatic bid to the National Tournament after winning the RMLC Conference Tournament. The Griffins only two losses this season came against St. Thomas and at MCLA DI BYU. Westminster opened this year's National Tournament with a 12-6 win over St. Marys. Gian Sexsmith led the Griffins in their round one win with three goals while Jake Arthur, Matt Hearn, and Kyle Postler each scored three goals. Postler also tallied two assists to lead the team with four points.

Westminster Player to Watch: Westminster will look to Gian Sexsmith to get things going for the Griffins. Sexsmith scored three goals in the opening round for Westminster. Sexsmith leads the team in goals (55), assists (31), and points (86).
 
Up Next: The winner of this match-up will play the winner of the Grand Valley State/Grand Canyon match-up. The semifinal match up will take place on Thursday at 10:00 AM.
