Davenport Advances in Thriller Against Westminster

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Davenport built a comfortable lead during the first three quarters only to see Westminster erase the deficit and eventually take the lead in the fourth before the Panthers were able to battle back for the win. Cody Cross led the Panthers with four goals. Davenport will take on Grand Valley State in the semifinals on Thursday.
 
Davenport came out a little slow and fell behind early when Westminster scored a few minutes into the first quarter. The Panthers fell behind even further five minutes later when Westminster scored again to take a 2-0 lead. Davenport picked up their first goal when Cody Cross finished off a pass from Richtsmeier midway through the first quarter.
 
Davenport and Westminster each exchanged two goals to close out the first quarter. The Panthers goals came from Cross and Quintin St. Clair.
 
Davenport turned it up a notch in the second quarter. The Panthers started the quarter with two quick goals by Taylor Keyworth and Daniel Hume. With just under nine minutes left in the half, Jordan Richtsmeier got on the board to give Davenport a 6-4 lead. And with less than a minute to play, Cody Cross scored a pair of goals to increase the Panther lead to 8-4.
 
After Westminster scored to start the third quarter, Davenport responded with goals by Nathaniel Adkins and Jack Turcotte to give Davenport their largest lead of the game at 10-5.
 
But this is where the game started to get interesting. Westminster scored one goal to close out the third and then netted the first five goals in the fourth quarter to battle back and take a 10-11 lead on the Panthers with just over four minutes left in the game.
 
The Panthers didn't give in and just eleven seconds after Westminster scored to take the lead, Lyle Parks scored to tie the game at 11-11. With 1:19 left in the game, Jack Turcotte scored an unassisted goal to win it for the Panthers.
 
Alexis Buque came up big in net for the Panthers making 18 saves and allowing 11 goals in the win.
 
Cody Cross led Davenport with four goals while Jack Turcotte added two goals including the game winner. Jordan Richtsmeier, Nathaniel Adkins, Lyle Parks, Taylor Keyworth, Daniel Hume, and Quintin St. Clair each tallied goals in the game. Richtsmeier led the team with four assists for five point on the day.
 
With the win, Davenport advances to the Final Four were the Panthers will meet Grand Valley State. GVSU defeated Grand Canyon 10-8 to make it to the Final Four. The semifinal match up will take place on Thursday at 10:00 AM.

Davenport has advanced to the Final Four for the fourth straight year…When playing games on back-to-back days, Davenport is 3-0 in the second games…The Panthers are 9-2 all-time in the National Tournament.
