GREENVILLE, S.C. – Davenport couldn't hold off Grand Valley in the second half as the Lakers pulled away to hand the Panthers a 11-15 loss.
Lyle Parks and
Jack Turcotte led the Panthers with three goals apiece. Davenport finished the season with a 14-6 overall record.
Davenport and Grand Valley State exchanged goals early in the game with
Dominic Boggiano and
Daniel Hume each getting on the board for the Panthers in the opening minute of play to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The Lakers tied the game a few minutes later.
With six minutes left in the first quarter,
Lyle Parks netted a goal to retake the lead for Davenport and 28 second later Daniel Hum scored his second goal of the game to increase the Panthers lead to two.
GVSU closed out the first quarter with two goals to pull even with the Panthers after one.
The Panthers got on the board first to start the second quarter when
Jack Turcotte scored another goal. But Grand Valley State came back with four unanswered goals to put Davenport in a 5-8 hole.
Just before the half,
Cody Cross and
Dominic Boggiano each were able to put away a goal to pull the Panthers within one at 7-8.
The Lakers put another on the board to start the third quarter but two goals for the Panthers by
Jack Turcotte and
Lyle Parks near the middle of the quarter pulled the Panthers even with the Lakers at 9-9.
With nine seconds left in the third quarter, the Lakers were able to convert a man up goal to rip the momentum away from the Panthers.
GVSU added another goal early in the fourth quarter to take a 11-9 lead.
Jack Turcotte kept the Panthers in the game with a goal at the 11:35 mark in the fourth to pull the Panthers within one.
But Davenport wasn't able to make hold off the Lakers offense as Grand Valley State scored four unanswered to end the Panthers chance at a repeat National Championship.
Lyle Parks finished off a behind the back goal with a second left to make the final 11-15.
Lyle Parks and
Jack Turcotte finished with three goals in the game while
Dominic Boggiano and
Daniel Hume each finished with two goals.
Cody Cross also netted a goal for the Panthers.
Jordan Richtsmeier lead the team with four assists in the game.
Davenports finishes the season at 14-6. Grand Valley State moves on to the National Championship were they will face the top-seed St. Thomas.

Davenport drops to 9-3 all-time in the National Tournament…The Panthers have made it to at least the final four each of the last four years…The Panthers will make the move to MCLA DI next season
