Men's Lacrosse CCLA Tournament Preview

SALINE, Mich. – The CCLA Conference Tournament resumes this weekend with the final four being played out in Saline, Mich. Davenport will put their 6-0 record against CCLA opponents on the line Friday night at 7:00 PM when they take on the University of Dayton. The winner will advance to the CCLA Championship game on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
 
Based on the final rankings, Grand Valley State entered the CCLA Tournament as the first seed while Davenport got the second seed. The third and fourth seeds went to the other division winners in Dayton and Indiana Tech.
 
In last week's first round games, the bracket held true with the top four seeds advancing. The first semifinal game between Grand Valley State and Indiana Tech will take place at 4:00 PM Friday with the Davenport and Dayton matchup following that game at 7:00 PM. The winner will meet in the Championship game on Saturday at 4:00 PM. All games will take place at Saline High School in Saline, Mich. Live audio and stats will be available for the Davenport games.
 
Grand Valley State Preview
 
Grand Valley State finished the regular season with a 13-1 overall record with their only loss coming to Davenport in overtime. GVSU comes in with one of the highest scoring offenses in MCLA D2 scoring 17.8 points a game. After starting the season 10-0, GVSU suffered their first loss to Davenport, a 6-7 loss, in which they were held over 11 goals under their average. The Lakers finished the season with two routs of Calvin and Ferris State and then defeated Oakland 19-6 in the first round of the CCLA Tournament. GVSU doesn't need to score a lot to be successful allowing only 5.6 goals a game.
 
Davenport Preview
 
Davenport comes in with a 12-4 record. The Panthers may have had the toughest schedule in the country with 13 of their 15 games coming against Division I teams or Division II teams ranked in the top 16. Davenport faced St. Thomas, Dayton, and GVSU when each was ranked second in the country, going 2-1 in those games. Davenport's four loses came by a combined five goals with one loss in overtime and another in double-overtime. Davenport is experienced in close games with seven of their games being decided by two goals of less and three games in overtime.
 
Dayton Preview
 
Dayton, the winner of the CCLA East Division finished with an overall record of 10-2. The Flyers only two loses came to the top two seeds, Davenport and Grand Valley State. Dayton is another high scoring team, averaging over 16 goals per game. Dayton has a 1-2 record against the remaining teams in the tournament having defeated Indiana Tech 14-8 earlier this season. The Flyers are on a five game winning streak having defeated Grove City College in Dayton last week 18-5 in the first round.
 
Indiana Tech Preview
 
Indiana Tech had an up and down year finishing 9-7. The Warriors won the CCLA Central division with a 4-0 record. Indiana Tech also played a tough schedule. All of the Warriors seven loses came against teams ranked in the top 25 of the division II poll. Their loses have also been close with four of the loses coming by two or less goals. After falling to Hope in Holland during the regular season 13-11, the Warriors got revenge in the first round of this tournament defeating the Flying Dutchmen 12-11 in Fort Wayne.
