Davenport Cruises by Toledo 26-4 in Season Opener

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport Men's Lacrosse opened up their 2013 campaign with a 26-4 win over the University of Toledo in tough rainy conditions. The Panthers built a 14-4 lead at halftime and shutout the Rockets in the second half outscoring them 12-0. Dominic Boggiano led DU with seven goals and two assists while Jordan Richtsmeier added two goals and eight assists.

Through one quarter of play Davenport held a 6-0 lead over Toledo. Cody Cross picked up the first goal with 10:45 left in the quarter as DU held a man advantage and 43 seconds later Quintin St. Clair added another goal. The Panthers offense was slowed down for a short period of time until they exploded for four goals in the final three minutes of the quarter. Boggiano picked the his second goal of the 1st quarter with nine tenths of a second left after Richtsmeier found him making a cut in front of the net.

The Panthers dominants carried over into the 2nd quarter as they jumped out to a 13-1 lead after goals from Boggiano (2), Richtsmeier (2), Lyle Parks (2), and Daniel Hume. In the final 2:30 of the 2nd quarter the Rockets went on a 3-1 run to make it 14-4 at the half.

The small run at the end of the first half ended up being the last time Toledo would find the net. Boggiano added three more goals in the third, one coming with a man up, one a man down, and one at even strength to give DU an 18-4 lead heading into the final stanza.

The Panthers didn't settle with a 14 goal lead and added eight more goals in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Fata (2), Parks, Nicholas Henderson, Nathaniel Adkins, Jack Turcotte, Parker Horvath, and Cross were the goal scorers for DU.

Eric Lindstrom picked up the win for Davenport in net as he let in four goals and made four saves in the first half. Kenny Flemming came in for Lindstrom in the third quarter and made three saves and Bill Linhardt was in net for the fourth quarter but faced no shots on net.

Davenport outshot the Rockets 48-20…DU also excelled on face-offs and extra-man opportunities going 26-32 on face-offs and 3-3 on extra man opportunities.
