Davenport Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Grand Valley 12-9

Box Score Allendale, Mich. – Davenport men's lacrosse evened up the all-time series record with rival Grand Valley State with an exciting 12-9 win on Wednesday night. The Panthers used a balanced scoring effort as seven different players registered goals for the Panthers. Kenny Flemming came up big in the second half and finished with 12 saves on the night.

Daniel Hume, Richtsmeier, and Chapin White each scored to spark a 3-1 run that tied the game 6-6 with 3:38 left in the half. In the closing minutes of the half the Panthers took their first lead since 1-0 with a goal by Hume with 21 seconds remaining.

After slow starts to the first two quarters, the Panthers came out with a high energy level in the third.  The Panthers built their largest lead of the game at 10-6 after three straight goals to start the half. Lyle Parks scored the Panthers first goal of the quarter followed by goals from Covert, and Cody Cross. A minute into the fourth Cross put the lead back up to four as he scored right in front of the net before absorbing a big hit. With three minutes left in the game Dominc Boggiano put the game on ice with a man up goal to put DU up 12-8.

Covert finished with three goals to lead the Panthers and Richtsmeier, Cross, and Hume each finished with two. Davenport will be back on the field on Saturday as they face Indian Tech.

Post-Game Quote Assistant Coach Taylor Keyworth

On teams performance “Most of all I was impressed in the team game that we played, offensively we possessed the ball really well, defensively we held them to three goals in the second half,  and Kenny Flemming played a great game again. The guys never got down and it was a full four quarter effort and we're real proud of the guys for that.”
