ADRIAN, Mich. - The Panthers won their first ever WHAC Championship Saturday afternoon as they defeated Indiana Tech 12-6 in the title game. Davenport held Indiana Tech to one goal in the first half as they built a four goal lead. Jimmy Fata had a game high five goals to lead the Panthers offense. DU will take the field again tomorrow afternoon as they host Simon Fraser.
The Panthers used a solid defensive performance to secure their first WHAC Championship. The Warriors struggled beating DU goalie Bill Linhardt as they scored just once in the first half. The Panthers gained a 3-0 lead after the first quarter thanks to goals from Fata, Cody Cross, and Jack Turcotte. Indiana Tech's lone first half goal came with 11:56 left in the 2nd quarter. DU add two goals in the final 1:15 to lead 5-1 at halftime.
In the second half the Panthers outscored the Warriors 7-5. DU got three more goals from Fata, and a goal each from Parker Horvath, Nicholas Henderson, Turcotte, and Nick Covert. Linhardt finished the game with a season high 22 saves while only letting in six goals.
Post-Game Notes
Indiana Tech had more shots at net (46-40) and more shots on net (28-24) then the panthers…The Warriors had 14 man up opportunities but scored on just three… DU held a slight edge on face-offs winning 11 of 19.
