Ten Goal Second Quarter Boosts Davenport Past Western Michigan 23-8

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenports men's lacrosse remained perfect in conference play with a 23-8 win over Western at DU Turf Field on Wednesday night. After a slow start in the first quarter the Panthers offense exploded for ten goals in the second to gain a 16-6 halftime lead. In the second half DU outscored the Broncos 7-2 as the Panthers got valuable playing time from their bench.

Another slow start plagued the Panthers o Wednesday. The Broncos pulled even with the Panthers 2-2 with a man up goal with 8:16 left in the opening quarter. Senior attacker Jordan Richtsmeier struggled finding the back of the net and missed on several scoring opportunities so he started setting up his teammates.

Richtsmeier helped the Panthers end the half on a 14-4 run, assisting on seven goals and scoring one of his own. Dominic Boggiano and Lyle Parks were his top two targets in the first half. Boggiano finished with five first half goals while Parks added four.

In the third the Panthers got goals from five different players. Cody Cross, Richtsmeier, Nick Covert, Jack Turcotte, and Nicholas Henderson each scored while the Panthers limited the Broncos to one goal. DU finished the game with two goals in the forth from Cross and Richtsmeier.

Richtsmeier finished with a team high 12 points (4g, 8a) while Boggiano added five goals and Parks chipped in four goals. DU will be back in action on Saturday when they host Pittsburgh.

The Panthers almost doubled up the Broncos on shot attempts outshooting WMU 60-31…DU finished 6-8 on man up opportunities…Davenport won 20 out of 33 face-offs.
