Davenport’s Offense Struggles in 11-1 loss to Michigan State

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Men's Lacrosse team dropped their final regular season game of the year 11-1 to Michigan State on Saturday night. The win clinched the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the Spartans who finished the season 11-2, 6-0 CCLA. The Panthers (11-4, 4-2 CCLA) will be the No.3 seed and face Pittsburg (10-6, 5-1 CCLA) in the opening round.

The Panthers struggled offensively right from the start mustering just three shot attempts in the opening quarter. The Spartans had 13 shot attempts and built a 3-0 after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter Davenport had more scoring chances but goalie Matt Allemang made 5 saves to keep the Panthers of the score board. Michigan State attacker Mackenzie Ensley added two more goals for the Spartans to give MSU a 5-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter DU picked up their lone goal 7:19 in the quarter. Nathaniel Adkins scooped up a low pass from Jordan Richtsmeier and beat Allmang. The Spartans finished the game with two goals in the third and four in the fourth to win 11-1.

Kenny Flemming had a big game in net finishing with 16 saves on 27 shots faced. Davenport will be back on the field May 3 as they take on Pittsburgh in the semi-final of the CCLA tournament.

Post-Game Quote Head Coach Chirs Gervat

“We came out I wouldn't say nervous or scared, but just hesitant and I thought it would pass by but the boys just played tentatively and because of that they played slow and that was the cause for the lack of production…The Lack of intensity led to the lack of production.”

Post-Game Notes
The Panthers set a school record for fewest goals scored in a game. The previous low was five which was done against GVSU and SCAD…This is the second lose at home this season the same amount of home games the Panthers lost in the last three seasons.
