Men’s Lacrosse Jumps Back Into Conference Play; Hosts Western Michigan and Pittsburgh

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers started off the season with conference wins over Toldeo (26-4) and Ohio (22-5) in February. Since then DU has played nine straight games out of conference, going 7-2 in that stretch and moving up to No.14 in the latest poll. This week Davenport returns to CCLA action as they host Western Michigan on Wednesday at 7:30 and No.24 Pittsburgh on Saturday at 3:00.

The Broncos enter Wednesday's matchup fifth in the CCLA and are 1-2 in the conference and 3-6 overall. WMU picked up their first conference win last weekend with a 13-11 win over Ohio University. Through nine the games the Broncos are averaging 9.11 goals per game while allowing 12.44 goals a game.

Heading Western's offense this year is #41 Sam Hartman and #9Bradley McDougal. Hartman, a freshman attacker, leads the Broncos in goals and assists with 15 goals and 10 assists on the season. Meanwhile, McDougal ranks second on the team with 11 goals and has added two assists.

This is the third meeting all-time between the Broncos and Panthers. The two teams met back in 2009. Davenport came up on top winning 8-6. Jordan Richtsmeier and Shawn Beer DU with 3 goals and one assist each.

On Saturday Davenport and Pittsburgh will meet for the second all-time meeting. DU beat Pitt 14-12 back in 2010.
Pittsburgh enters this week ranked No.24 in the latest MCLA d1 poll. Pitt is 8-4 overall and are right behind the DU in the CCLA standing with a 3-1 conference record. Pittsburg picked up their first CCLA loss last weekend in a tough 10-9 loss to No.13 MSU.

Davenport will look to slow down Pitts high power offense that is averaging 12.75 goals a game. DU will try to shut down #14 Tyler Novotny who is averaging 3.67 goals a game with 44 on the year. The Other key player for Pittsburg is #21 Joe Grsuma who has 25 goals and 23 assists on the season.
