GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's lacrosse team was back in action for the first time in a month as they hosted Western Michigan on Friday.
Dominic Boggiano led the way with eight goals and two assists and
Parker Horvath followed with five goals and four assists, as Davenport beat Western Michigan 25-1. The Panthers are now 3-0 on the season and move to 2-0 in the CCLA. Davenport will be in action again next weekend at Northville High School against Liberty University in a Wounded Warrior Benefit Game on Saturday, March 22.
Dominic Boggiano had the scoring touch for the Panthers as he tallied eight goals in the game and also chipped in with two assists.
Parker Horvath also had a big game with five goals and four assists in the game.
Chapin White capped of the Panther hat tricks with three goals, and
CJ Bush was the only final player with a multi-goal game. Davenport had 11 different players score a goal in the 25-1 victory.
The Panthers had a slow start to the game scoring just two goals in the first 7:28 of the first quarter, but after DU took the 2-0 lead they finally clicked on offense scoring three more goals to take a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. The scoring started quickly in the second quarter as Davenport scored just 12 seconds into the period. Davenport's defense held strong in the first half holding Western Michigan to 7-12 on clearing attempts. DU tallied six more goals to take a 12-0 lead into halftime.
After having an non-releasable at the end of the second quarter that led to three goals from Boggiano, Boggiano started the third quarter with another man up goal to give the Panthers a 13-0 lead. After a nine goal third quarter DU had a 21-0 lead with one quarter remaining.
Caleb Downs of Western Michigan finally put the Broncos on the board with 14:36 remaining in regulation, but the Panthers rattled off the final four goals to win the game 25-1.
The Panthers will travel to Northville, Mich. to face Liberty University in a Wounded Warrior's Benefit Game at Northville High School on Saturday March 22 at 3 p.m.
