Overtime Goal Lifts No. 20 Men’s Lax to Upset Victory over No. 4 Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The 20th ranked men's lacrosse team traveled to East Lansing, Mich. to take on fourth-ranked Michigan State in a critical CCLA match up. Dominic Boggiano and Nathaniel Adkins had two goals in the game, while Chapin White also scored two goals including the game-winning goal in overtime. Davenport is now 7-3 on the season and is 4-0 in the CCLA. The Panthers will be back on the field on Sunday when they face Ohio University on the DU Turf Field at 4 p.m.
 
Davenport started the scoring in the game as Nathaniel Adkins scored the first goal of the game to take the early lead. However, Michigan State came right back to tie the game at one after the first quarter.
 
The Panthers dictated play in the second quarter and started to pull away. Chapin White scored the first goal of the quarter to give the Panthers a one-goal edge. Davenport kept pouring it on scoring five more goals in the quarter, and the DU defense stood tall to shutout the Michigan State in the second quarter. The Panthers took a commanding 7-1 lead into halftime.
 
To open the second half, the Spartans looked to make a comeback by scoring the first goal of the half. Michigan State then started a run of their own as they rattled off the next six goals to take their first lead of the game at 8-7 with 8:04 left in the fourth quarter.
 
Adkins broke the Spartan run with a goal to tie the game at 8-8. Neither team could find a goal in the final minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Jimmy DeJaeger won the opening faceoff to give Davenport possession to start overtime. Nathaniel Adkins found Chapin White to beat the Michigan State goalie and give the Panthers a 9-8 win in overtime.
 
Davenport is 4-0 in the CCLA and is a half game ahead of Michigan State for first place in the conference, as the Spartans are now 4-1 in conference play.
 
The Panthers will be back action on Sunday at 4 p.m. when they host Ohio University on the DU Turf Field in make up game from February 15.
