Boggiano Scores Eight Times to Lead No. 20 Men’s Lax to Win over Ohio

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After an upset win over forth-ranked Michigan State on Saturday, the 20th ranked men's lacrosse team had to refocus their attention in another CCLA match up against Ohio. Dominic Boggiano scored eight goals and chipped in with two assists and Parker Horvath had five goals and three assists in the game. The Panthers are now 8-3 overall and move to 5-0 in the CCLA to clinch the number one seed in the CCLA tournament. Davenport will now host Grand Valley State on the DU Turf Field at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
 
Dominic Boggiano and Parker Horvath led the Davenport offensive attack against Ohio as Boggiano led the team with five goals and chipped in with two assists, while Horvath led the team with three assists and also had five goals. Kyle Hubbard picked up the win in net making nine saves and allowing just five goals in the game.
 
After their overtime win against Michigan State, Davenport looked to carry over their momentum into the game against Ohio. The Panthers did just that as Nathaniel Adkins scored the first goal of the game just 2:51 into the first quarter. Davenport continued put on the pressure offensively as they scored five more goals in the quarter, while Hubbard and the DU defense shutout Ohio to lead 6-0 after the first quarter.
 
After a late goal in the first quarter, Boggiano started the scoring in the second quarter to increase the Panther lead to seven goals. Eric Bartel, of Ohio University, stopped the Davenport run with a goal 2:15 into the quarter. The Panthers scored the last two goals of the half to take a 9-1 lead heading into halftime.
 
Adkins started the scoring in the second half for the Panthers with 13:44 left in the third quarter. After Adkins scored, Davenport scored the next five goals from five different goal scorers to take a 15-1 lead with 2:11 left in the third quarter. The Bobcats scored two quick goals in the final minute of the quarter to cut the Panther lead to 15-3 after the third quarter.
 
Davenport regained the momentum to start the fourth quarter on a goal from Horvath, and Richie Tagliagambe followed it up two minutes later with his first goal of the game. Horvath and Boggiano scored back-to-back goals, before Ohio scored two more goals to cut the score to 19-5. The Panthers scored the final five goals of the game to beat the Bobcats 24-5.
 
With the win over Ohio, Davenport has now clinched the first seed in the CCLA tournament and the regular season title.
 
The Panthers will host Grand Valley State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on the DU Turf Field. The men's lacrosse team will also host their purple in the community game on Wednesday.
