GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Dominic Boggiano and
Parker Horvath led the way for the 20th ranked Davenport men's lacrosse team in a 21-7 win over Central Michigan. Boggiano tallied five goals and an assist, while Horvath had four goals to go along with five assists. The Panthers are now 6-3 on the season and move to 3-0 in the CCLA. Next up for Davenport is a crucial CCLA match-up against fourth-ranked Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Leading the Panthers was
Parker Horvath, who scored four goals and also led the team with five assists.
Dominic Boggiano led the team with five goals in the game.
Quintin St. Clair and
Richie Tagliagambe each tallied three goals for their first hat tricks of the season.
Chapin White and
Daniel Hume rounded out the multi-goal scores with two each, and
Nathaniel Adkins and
Mitchell Clay rounded out the DU goal scores with one goal apiece.
Davenport started the game on a roll, as they scored the first four goals of the game to jump out to a 4-0 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first quarter. After four minutes of scoreless play, Central Michigan got on the board with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter, but Boggiano scored a goal in the final minute of the first quarter as the Panthers led 5-1 after the first 15 minutes of play.
The Panthers and Chippewas alternated goals to start the second quarter, and Central Michigan was dictating the pace of play in the first half of the quarter as they cut the Davenport lead to three goals. In final 1:35 of the quarter, the Panthers scored three quick goals to take a 10-4 lead into halftime.
To start the second half, DU carried over their momentum from the first half as they tallied the first two goals of the half. After a Central Michigan goal with 13:24 left in the third quarter,
Nathaniel Adkins brought the Davenport lead back to eight goals. The Panthers closed the quarter on a 3-0 run to lead 16-5 heading into the fourth quarter.
As the physicality of the game continued into the fourth quarter, Davenport built off their 3-0 run at the end of the third quarter to score the first five goals of the fourth quarter and increase their lead to 16 goals. The Chippewas scored the last two goals of the game, but the Panthers came away with a 21-7 win.
Davenport is now 6-3 on the year and moves within a half game of Michigan State for first place in the CCLA. Central Michigan drops to 3-9 and is 1-3 in the CCLA.
The Panthers will travel East Lansing, Mich. for a critical CCLA match up against Michigan State on Saturday at 7 p.m. Davenport will then return home on Sunday to face Ohio University in a make up game from February 15. The game will be at 4 p.m. on the DU Turf Field.
