ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 18th-ranked Davenport men's lacrosse team faced seventh ranked Michigan State in the championship game of the CCLA Tournament.
Dominic Boggiano,
Parker Horvath and
Daniel Hume led the way with two goals and one assist each, but the Spartans were able to win the game 11-10. Davenport drops to 10-5 on the season and will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid into the MCLA National Tournament.
The Panthers had a balanced offensive attack in the game and with Boggiano, Horvath, and Hume each tallying two goals and an assist.
Quintin St. Clair also tallied two goals in the game, while
Coltin Borthwick and
Chapin White each scored a goal in the game.
Sam White,
Parker Lint,
Richie Tagliagambe and
Daniel Bailey finalized the points with one assists apiece.
Michigan State started the scoring in the game with a goal 35 second into the game, but Hume came right back of a pass from Lint to tie the game at one. After a Spartan goal, Hume scored his second goal of the to tie the game back up. Davenport scored the final three goals of the quarter to take a 5-2 lead after the first 15 minutes of play.
The Spartans started to make their comeback in the second quarter scoring the first two goals to bring the game within one goal. St. Clair scored an unassisted goal to push the Davenport lead back to two goals. However, Michigan State scored three man-up goals to close out the second quarter and take 7-6 lead into the half.
The scoring started to settle down in the second half as each team scored one goal in the third quarter and Michigan State led 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
Both teams alternated goals throughout the fourth quarter as Michigan State started the scoring in the fourth quarter, and
Chapin White scored with 42 seconds left in the game cut the lead to one goal. The Spartans won the ensuing faceoff, and the Panthers were able to force a turnover in the final seconds, but time ran out on Davenport and Michigan State was able to win the game 11-10.
The Panthers will now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid into the MCLA National Tournament.
