Men’s Lacrosse Continues Road Stretch With Two Games in Ohio

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's lacrosse team continues their three-week road stretch this weekend as they have two games on tap against Miami (OH) and Virginia Tech. The Panthers take on Miami Friday night at 7 p.m., and Virginia Tech. Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Both games will be held in Oxford, Ohio on the Miami Turf Field.
 
The Panthers
 
Last week, the Panthers traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia for what was supposed to be two consecutive games against Clemson and Liberty University, but due to weather the game against Clemson was cancelled. In Sunday's game against Liberty, the Panthers fell short to the Flames by a score of 13-9. Devon Benson recorded three goals in the loss, while Parker Horvath racked up four assists. In the updated MCLA Division I Polls, the Panthers dropped three spots from 19 to 22.

Scouting Miami (OH)

Chuck Wilson's Red Hawks already have five games under their belt this season, winning their first three games but dropping their last two to Minnesota and Iowa. Eric Tortorella leads the Red Hawks with nine points on five goals and 4 assists. Corey Steinberg and Jarrod Culp have been splitting the majority of duties behind the net, combining for 30 goals allowed in those five games, and 59 total saves.

Virginia Tech is coached by Matthew Schroeder, and will call Saturday's game against the Panthers their first regular season game of the season. They come into the 2014 spring season ranked No. 10 in the MLCA Division I PollsReturning for the Hokies is senior captain Joseph Rittenhouse and senior Alex Clough who both tied for the second most total points on the team last year with 56 a piece. Experienced sophomore Bryan Cooper will claim the start role for the Hokies between the net, and appeared in 14 games where he recorded a goals against average of 3.57.
