HOLLAND, Mich. – The Davenport men's tennis team played their first match in Michigan since February 14th when they face Midland (Mich.), as they took on Hope College on Tuesday evening. After the Panthers beat Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Saturday, Davenport was back in action as they beat Hope College, 8-1, to win their second straight match. Davenport will be back in action against Cardinal Stritch on March 21st in Indianapolis, Ind.
After the Panthers dropped the first doubles match, 8-5, Davenport was able to grab the final two points at doubles to take a 2-1 lead.
Kevin Slagh and
Haja Denise were able to grab a 9-7 win at doubles number two, and the duo of
Juan-Philip van Antwerpen and
Steven Vink wrapped up doubles play with an 8-2 victory.
In singles, the Panthers were able to keep the momentum going from doubles matches as they swept Hope in singles to grab all six points at singles. Davenport was able to win all six singles matches in straight sets as they went on to beat Hope, 8-1.
Davenport is now 6-6 on the season and will be in action in 11 days, when they will travel down to Indianapolis, Ind., to face Cardinal Stritch on the campus of Marian (Ind.).
